Titles: Social Studies Teacher, Head Cross Country Coach, Head Baseball Coach, Head Indoor Track Coach Cory Carlson graduated from Eckerd College in 1999 with a B.A. in Sociology before going on to the University of New Haven for an M.A. in History in 2002. He began teaching and coaching baseball at Northwest Catholic in 2003. Northwest Catholic gave Mr. Carlson his first teaching job, and he’s been here ever since! He currently teaches both World and U.S. History. He joined the Cross Country coaching staff in 2015 and was appointed Head Coach in 2018. His first passion, however, is baseball, and he’s been Head Coach at NWC for 16 years. Northwest’s baseball team has won 5 conference championships and 2 state championships, in both 2010 and 2015. The baseball program has sent many student-athletes on to play baseball in college, and Coach Carlson is proud to have maintained close relationships with several former players. Coach Carlson says his wife Ashley and daughter Harper are his biggest fans. They get to experience all the victories and defeats, always with a smile regardless of the outcome. Mr. Carlson says the Northwest Catholic community has provided him with a family away from home. The relationships he’s developed with students, colleagues, and coaches over the years have truly been a blessing. When people ask Coach Carlson what he does in the winter, he tells them, “I stare out the window and wait for spring.” |
