Titles: Math Teacher, Junior Class Moderator, Math Department Chair Kate Calendrillo earned her B.S. from Drexel University. After teaching in public school for four years, Ms. Calendrillo resigned after having her first child. She spent the next 11 years tutoring students of all ages in all areas of math. When it was time to return to the classroom, she knew she wanted to teach in a Catholic school, having attended Catholic school herself in New Jersey. She found Northwest Catholic and says it immediately felt like home. She has been teaching math at NWC for 4 years. Ms. Calendrillo’s classroom is a welcoming, friendly place, "where math anxiety goes to die." She is approachable and happy to help any student with questions — not just her current students but her former students and other math students as well. She truly cares about students, and this shows in her classroom, which is always bustling before and after school. Ms. Calendrillo loves investigating new teaching methods to make learning math more interesting and more fun. Her classes utilize a variety of methods — using old school paper and pencil, notes on the Smartboard or iPad, the TI-84 graphing calculator, partner work, games, Khan Academy, etc. Ms. Calendrillo’s daughter has recently joined the NWC family as a freshman, and her two younger sons aren’t far behind. |
